Ta-Da! Quarterly Update from OED: April 2007

April 6, 2007

I swear this is more than a quarterly update, but I always think it’s fun anyway!  Here’s the news:

New Entries: The latest alphabetical range to be revised is PRAKIT through PRIM (an excessively formal or precise person), including 2693 new and revised entries. For a complete list: http://dictionary.oed.com/help/updates/Prakrit-prim.html and for new entries across the alphabet (like wiki and ta-da) go here: http://dictionary.oed.com/help/updates/Prakrit-prim.html#oos

Finally, some reality TV I can get behind:
The OED is asking for public assistance to help trace the history of forty well-known words and phrases. The results of this new Wordhunt will be featured in the BBC series BALDERDASH & PIFFLE, which returns this summer. View the full list of words, from FLIP-FLOP to SHELL-SUIT, DOG AND BONE to SHAGGY DOG STORY, BLOODY MARY to GLASGOW KISS: http://www.oed.com/bbcwordhunt/
